- Climb Lion’s Rock Fortress to capture the sunset – The Sigiriya Lion Rock Fortress is an inspiring historical site in central Sri Lanka, built during the reign of King Kashyapa I between 477 and 495 CE. Perched atop a towering 200-meter-high rock, it served as a royal palace and stronghold. The name Sigiriya means “Lion Rock,” referring to the grand entrance that featured a lion-shaped gateway, with the massive lion paws still visible today.
